Dr Nerissa Stander, BVSc MMedVet(Diag Im) DipECVDI
Nerissa obtained her primary veterinary degree in 2002 at the University of Pretoria after which she spent 4 years working in small animal practice in the United Kingdom, including an internship at Davies Veterinary Specialists. She returned to South Africa in 2007 to specialise in Diagnostic Imaging and conducted a parallel European college diagnostic imaging track. After successful completion of her exams, she became South African veterinary diagnostic imaging specialist and a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging. After her residency she took up a post as Senior Lecturer in Radiology at the University of Pretoria. Nerissa enjoys teaching and is an accomplished public speaker having extensively presented continuing veterinary education courses and guest lectures. Nerissa has published several papers (primarily on gastrointestinal ultrasonography) as well as co-authored a book chapter in the BSAVA manual of canine and feline abdominal imaging. She has also been a part-time teleradiologist since 2010 – primarily reporting on CT and MRI studies. In July 2012 Nerissa and her family relocated to Perth where she set up her own mobile veterinary imaging business before joining WAVES as the principal radiologist. Nerissa has recently become a registered Australian specialist in veterinary diagnostic imaging. Nerissa has a special interest in echocardiography, gastrointestinal ultrasonography and advanced imaging modalities but never tires of looking at radiographs!
