Digital radiography

Radiographs, or x-rays as they are commonly known use short bursts of x-rays to create a two dimensional image of the body. Digital radiography captures the radiograph without the conventional use of film. Images are then viewed on computer screens and can be manipulated, cropped and measured. Radiographs are the simplest, oldest and most frequently used form of the imaging modalities.

Radiographs  and  are used to diagnose disease of the chest, abdomen and musculoskeletal system. We can also perform contrast studies of the gastrointestinal and urinary tract as well as myelograms to assess spinal pathology.

X-rays are typically the first imaging test to investigate problems such as

  • Lameness
  • Coughing
  • Trauma
  • Fever
  • Gastric dilatation / volvulus
  • Spinal pain

X-rays are also used to evaluate

  • Cancer
  • Pulmonary metastasis
  • Patients in cardiac failure
  • Foreign bodies
  • Pneumonia
