Hospital Now Open

WAVES is the newest veterinary referral and emergency facility in Australia. With specialists in internal medicine, diagnostic imaging, emergency & critical care and surgery, we aim to provide advanced and comprehensive care for the pets of Perth and WA

What to do in an emergency

WAVES has a dedicated emergency and critical care service staffed by both specialist and non-specialist veterinarians with experience in dealing with animals with severe life-threatening problems. The service is open for emergencies 24hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

If you think your pet has a problem, call us on 9412 5700 for advice. Alternatively, during normal working hours, you may wish to contact your veterinarian for advice. Depending on the nature of the problem, we may recommend that you bring your pet down to WAVES for a consultation with a veterinarian. Your veterinarian may also decide to refer you directly to our emergency department should your pet require immediate urgent attention.

If you have a large dog that is unable to walk or get up, place it on a strong sheet / large towel and stretcher it into the car. Leave the sheet in place so that you can stretcher your dog out of the car when you arrive. Let our friendly staff know if you need assistance to get your dog out of your car.

After hours, the front door will be locked for security reasons. Please use the doorbell provided to let us know you need assistance and we will attend to you promptly.

The emergency service operates on a triage basis. When you first come into the hospital, a veterinary nurse will evaluate your pet to determine how severe his/her problem is. This means that if your pet has a severe life-threatening problem, he/she will not be made to wait until everyone else has been attended to. If your pet needs immediate attention, we will provide the required care immediately.

We deal with a whole range of problems like snail bait toxicities, rat bait toxicities, motor vehicular accidents, vomiting, diarrhoea, parvovirus, fractures, cuts, anaphylaxis, allergic reactions, bites and bruises.

Using a combination of diagnostic equipment like ultrasound and x-rays in addition to an in-house laboratory that can process blood tests within 10minutes, we are able to provide rapid, effective and care of the highest quality available to every animal that presents to us.

To ensure that continuity of care is provided, we will notify your primary care veterinarian of your pet’s visit to WAVES. If your pet is treated and stable, they may be discharged directly from WAVES. If ongoing care is required during normal business hours, you may elect for your pet to either continue receiving care at WAVES or to be discharged to the care of your primary care veterinarian.
