Outpatient cardiology service
The medicine & imaging services combined are able to offer an outpatient cardiology clinic for veterinary practitioners who do not have access to modalities required to fully investigate cardiac disease in their practice. This service is aimed at stable patients with suspected or known cardiac disease (such as a murmur of unknown cause or monitoring progression of known cardiac disease). This service is intended to assist veterinary practitioners with investigations of their patients, while simultaneously allowing practitioners to manage their own cases independently. There is no medicine consultation involved in this service or advice on treatment provided. Advice on management or treatment can be given if this is requested at the time of referral. Cases requiring prior stabilisation should be referred according to normal procedures. This service is not suitable for patients with known respiratory compromise. If a patient has these signs, normal referral to the medicine teams is required.
What is included in this service?
+/- Thoracic radiographs
Echocardiography with the imaging department
Written report detailing the findings of investigations performed.
You are then able to discuss the findings and subsequent case management with the owners in your own practice. If a treatment or management plan is required this may be provided but is not covered in the cost of these initial investigations.
Please see the Outpatient Cardiology Service leaflet for criteria for access to this service. (PDF ATTACH HERE)
