Diagnosis and Treatment of Cancers

Oncology is the study and treatment of cancer. Cancer can manifest in many different ways according to the type and site of development. Various diagnostic tests including advanced imaging and tissue sampling are usually required to make a diagnosis. The diagnosis and treatment of cancer often requires input from other disciplines within the practice, such as the diagnostic imaging and surgical services in order to ensure the best possible treatment and quality of life for our patients. We can offer a range of chemotherapeutic options for lymphoma and some leukaemias. In addition to this, we also provide chemotherapy for selected solid tumours, usually as post-operative adjunctive therapy.

A diagnosis of cancer can be frightening and confusing for owners, often with many choices to be made regarding possible treatments. A large part of our job is to talk to clients about their pet’s disease and to guide them through difficult choices with compassion and understanding.

We are passionate about ensuring that the quality of life for every patient suffering from cancer is maintained (or even improved) as a result of their treatment. Should side-effects or complications unfortunately develop, we will endeavour to do all we can to minimize their discomfort and restore them to health again if possible.
